Description
BFTT-PES-3: PES TFF Cassette for Microfiltration
The BFTT-PES-3 is a membrane cassette for microfiltration using tangential flow filtration (TFF), also known as crossflow filtration. The cassette features a polyethersulfone (PES) membrane and is available with four pore sizes and four effective membrane areas.
During tangential flow filtration, the liquid flows along the membrane surface. Part of the liquid passes through the membrane as permeate, while retained particles remain in the retentate. The selected pore size helps determine which particles are retained and which can pass through the membrane.
Four Microfiltration Pore Sizes
The BFTT-PES-3 is available with the following pore sizes:
- M010 – 0.10 µm
- M020 – 0.20 µm
- M045 – 0.45 µm
- M065 – 0.65 µm
For this microfiltration cassette, membrane selection is expressed in micrometres rather than a molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) in kDa. The appropriate pore size depends on the particles you want to separate and the required process outcome.
Membrane Areas from 0.02 to 2.50 m²
The BFTT-PES-3 is available in four effective membrane areas:
- 0.02 m² — 200 cm²
- 0.10 m²
- 0.50 m²
- 2.50 m²
Each pore size is available with each of these membrane areas. The required area depends on factors such as process volume, liquid composition and target processing time.
Suspended Screen Configuration
The BFTT-PES-3 is supplied with a V – Suspended screen and an S – Standard body. Within this product range, you select the pore size and membrane area; the screen and body configuration remain the same.
Selecting a Cassette for Your Microfiltration Process
The PES membrane, pore size and effective membrane area should match your liquid and process conditions. Selection also depends on which particles you want to retain and whether the desired product fraction is collected in the retentate or permeate.
