Description
BFTT-RC-2: RC TFF Cassette with Polyurethane Construction
The BFTT-RC-2 is a membrane cassette with a regenerated cellulose (RC) membrane in a polyurethane construction for tangential flow filtration (TFF). This technique, also known as crossflow filtration, is used to concentrate liquids and perform diafiltration, for example for buffer exchange.
During tangential flow filtration, the liquid flows along the membrane surface. Part of the liquid passes through the membrane as permeate, while retained components remain in the retentate. The selected cut-off helps determine which components are retained and which can pass through the membrane.
Fifteen Cut-Off Options from 1 to 300 kDa
The BFTT-RC-2 product range includes the following molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) values: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 30, 50, 100 and 300 kDa.
In addition to the S versions, specific H and L versions are available:
- 1 kDa: 001S and 001H
- 3 kDa: 003S, 003H and 003L
- 30 kDa: 030S and 030H
- 100 kDa: 100S and 100H
The appropriate membrane version and cut-off are selected based on your application, the components you want to retain and the required separation.
Five Effective Membrane Areas
The BFTT-RC-2 is available in the following effective membrane areas:
- 0.01 m² — 100 cm²
- 0.02 m² — 200 cm²
- 0.11 m²
- 0.50 m²
- 2.50 m²
The required membrane area depends on factors such as process volume, liquid properties and target processing time.
Four Screen Configurations
The BFTT-RC-2 product range includes four screen options:
- A – Tight screen
- C – Standard coarse screen
- D – Coarse screen
- V – Suspended screen
The cassette is offered with an S – Standard body. Available combinations of cut-off, screen and membrane area vary by configuration. Not all options can be combined.
Concentration and Diafiltration
During concentration, liquid passes through the membrane, increasing the concentration of retained components. Diafiltration is used for buffer exchange or the removal of small components that can pass through the membrane.
To select a suitable TFF cassette, the RC membrane, cut-off, effective membrane area and screen configuration should match your liquid and process conditions.
