Temporary Strainer (Cone Type)
Description
Cone Strainer or Temporary Strainer for Short-Term Use
A cone strainer, also known as a temporary strainer, is specifically designed for short-term or temporary use in filtration processes. Typical applications include the commissioning and initial startup phase of new or refurbished process systems. During this critical stage, the temporary strainer effectively removes coarse debris and contaminants from the liquid or gas stream, protecting sensitive equipment such as pumps and valves.
A cone strainer or temporary strainer is very easy to install between two flanges in a piping system. Thanks to its simple design, the strainer can also be quickly removed once the startup phase is complete. These strainers are manufactured from perforated metal plates with a welded collar, ensuring robust and reliable performance even under significant pressure drop conditions.
If needed, cone strainers can be equipped with a mesh lining, enabling filtration down to 5 microns. This ensures finer particle removal, contributing to higher process efficiency and protecting critical system components.
After the initial startup phase, the cone strainer is often replaced by a more permanent filtration solution, such as a Y-strainer, basket strainer or duplex strainer with a finer micron rating. This upgrade helps further reduce differential pressure and optimize the system’s flow rate.
At Van Borselen Filters, our cone strainers are available in a wide range of materials, sizes (from DN15 to DN80), and pressure ratings. This ensures there is always a suitable temporary strainer for your specific application, whether operating at low, medium, or high pressures. We can also advise you on the best choice based on your process needs and applicable regulatory requirements.
